Nightmare on Melody Lane

We are behind schedule. We were ahead, but now we are far behind schedule. Why? Because our living room has undergone three color changes so far. The kitchen was a disaster averted because of the Clevengers. Grace’s room has come together flawlessly thus far thanks to Janice and Mick, but the LR is the bane of our existence. I think I finally have things ready to roll. Venitian plaster. Coffee color. And it is looking saweet against the new furniture that was delivered. I’m trying to finish it up tomorrow night. Ordering carpet for Grace’s room and the office tonight after Grace’s bball game and Mick’s cell coming to help paint the inside of the cupboards, finish G’s room, and hopefully paint the office. Mick’s pretty wiped out from conferences this week, and I’m trying to hit things hard before I head to the cabin for our annual trip to the wilderness. Hoping it all comes together and we’re ready for moving on Sunday. But today, it’s fatigue, madness, and messiness.

Do Be Do Be Do…

As I walked into my office yesterday, I was greeted by a four-foot tall penguin sitting in my chair. Last week I had taped a picture of a penguin on my door that Grace had made for me and asked our office to come up with names for it as something fun to do.
Then as I entered my office and turned on the light, I met who I would learn later is Pete the Penguin. Sherry has owned Pete for many years, and made the effort to ask her brother to drive it from Toledo last weekend to give it to me. As we were laughing about it, Ann started humming, “Do be do be dooo.”, in the tune of Sinatra’s “Strangers in the Night”. It reminded me of that Bud Light commercial not too long ago with the penguins. Funny.
So, now I’m not alone in my office. I have a new friend. Someone who will probably make it into the new house and befriend a certain 7 year-old who will jump at the chance to enjoy a stuffed animal as big as she is. Pete. Pete the Penguin. On loan from Sherry. Thanks Sher – for a 4 foot tall stuffed animal. Thanks for the love. But, in the UCOM, it’s all about the love. And that’s a beautiful thing.

The Beautiful Couple

Grace and I had a really fun time last night. We went to our second “Dad & Daughter” dance. Last year I only knew two people, but this year was different. Since we’ve been connecting with Grace’s friends more this year, we’ve gotten to know them, and this night was fun.
Grace was really excited to get dressed up and Micki did her hair. I sent an invitation in her lunch box that I made to invite her.
We left and had an amazing time. The food was still as crusty as last year, but Grace had a great time. She loves dancing and playing around with her friends. And the caviat for getting the dads out early was Brian Kono and I taking our girls out for ice cream at The Parlor. So, we hung out, danced (awkwardly), ate come nasty food, and then headed for ice cream.
It was a really special time and special night. For Grace to have time with her dad only for her. She said to Micki as we left, “I’ll have fun at my prom!” Little does she know that I will still be her date when she’s a senior!
