SAU Day at Comerica Park

This past weekend was fast, furious, and cool. Micki had a sleep over with her cell group girls Friday night, and Saturday was SAU Day at Comerica Park. We sponsored the Tigers vs. Twins. It was a rockin’ day. We got there early and got in the stadium to see the tigers practice. It was cool. Then we had a ceremony at one of the outdoor resteraunts in the park where President Beebe spoke and introduced Mike Maroth, one of the star pitchers. He had pitched the night before. And won. He’s also a Christian. So, he hung out for about 20 minutes and met people that came to hang out. Micki and Grace waited in line and Grace got her picture taken with him. He was a really cool guy.

I had the privilege of being able to go down on the field and videotape the president as he spoke and threw out the first pitch. It was surreal. As we were walking out, I was about 6 feet from Pudge Rodriguez. The guy’s arms were bigger than my legs. He was throwing the ball from home plate to right field faster than I could throw from one end of this room to the other. They were laser beams. It was really cool. Privileged. Mick took a picture of me on the field.

Later in the evening, Jason Kreger, Grace and I took a 3-inning stroll around the park. Jason had never been to Comerica before. The game seemed like a NL game. Nearly 3 hours. After the game ended, and the Tigers lost 3-2, we sponsored a fireworks show. It was one of the best fireworks displays I’ve ever seen.

We had a great time with lots of friends, special privileges, and fun. At the end of the night, as we were leaving, I got snagged by Tim, my boss. He needed some help packing up some stuff. I was happy to help, but as we were pulling out to head home, Tim reached in the car and gave Grace an autographed baseball. Guess who’s autograph? Mike Maroth. So now Grace loves the Tigers and Maroth. We may have made her a sports fan after all.
