Christmas Vacay Day One: The Trip to Orlando

The Dolphin Theater

Our flight left from Detroit at 7AM Wednesday, so we had to be at the airport at 5:30, which means, yes, you guessed it, we left for Detroit around 4:30. AM. Uncle Duane took us. Bless him! Of course, Grace didn’t go to sleep until after 11 and Micki and I didn’t get things packed up until 12. Needless to say it was a short night.

The trip to Orlando was fun though. No bumps flying at the holidays. Grace didn’t sleep at all on the ride to the airport. Didn’t sleep at all on the 21/2 hour flight to Orlando, and didn’t sleep when we got off the plane to drive out. We had a surprise for her in taking her to Sea World. They had opened up a dolphin theater that was being built when we were there in the spring. So we took her to see it. By this time Grace was starting to turn crusty. And Micki was already there. Both of them get grouchy when they get tired, and it happened at Sea World.

They both started looking like death warmed over and were crusty. Micki fell asleep at Shamu Stadium in the bleachers (A pic I won’t show online, but it’s funny!). Grace was a walking zombie. We were there for a few hours and left to drive to Ft. Lauderdale which is where our hotel was. Not five minutes into the drive, Grace was out like a light. STONE COLD. There’s a pic of her asleep with, of course, something in her hands. She tried to journal, but couldn’t stay awake.

We arrived late at the hotel and checked in. It was a fun and tiring first day. But we were in Florida and the excitement was just beginning!
