It’s Wednesday and I just got back from the first Men’s Retreat in SAFMC history. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true. This was the view I had on Saturday morning as the sun came up over the hillside and trees at Spring Hill Camp in Evart, MI. It was cold, but beautiful.
I had a blast hanging out with guys I don’t normally hang with. Getting to know new men, and building on relationships with thos I already knew. I got out of my comfort zone by playing paintball for the first time in a decade. Did trap shooting (clay targets), and biggest of all, I did the zip line. Not being the biggest fan of heights, I braved the high platform and jumped off…twice.
One of my favorite times of the whole weekend was simply hanging out with Fred and Olen at a late night campfire. Butch and BJ joined us later. We were there for hours just talking and hanging out. It was a great time.
I was really challenged by our speaker, Gary DeBock, who got in our faces, big time. He took off the gloves and challenged us to step up to the plate and stop wasting time waiting to mature. I was grateful for that kick. And we had some programmed solitude time which was rich. Just being quiet and listening. It was a great time for connecting and focus. Grateful for Doug and the others who made this happen. We need more of these events.
